José (Joe) Khu (邱文祁) (1920-2012) was a leader of the Chinese community in Calgary from the late 1970s until the mid-to-late 1990s. He was born in Manila, Philippines and settled in Calgary with his family in 1973.

He played an instrumental role in the founding of the Calgary Chinese School (Mandarin), and in the building of the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre and the Wah Ying Mansion (華英大廈) (senior’s building) in Chinatown. Among the positions held by Joe Khu were the following:

  • 1977-79

  • 1979-1980

  • 1980

  • 1981-1983, and 1987

  • 1982-83, 1986, and 1989-90

  • 1985-88
